It’s that time of the year again, it’s demo season!

Yes, that’s right, demo season again, and today i wanted to take a look at MR.RECORDS. This is a game that’s continually popped up over my social media feed over the last week or so, and I felt it was a sign to check it out for myself.

Instead of waffling at the start, let’s just get straight to it!

MR.RECORDS

What is Mr Records?

Well, Mr Records is an upcoming casual indie game that combines an uplifting adventure and music into one. Developed by Glee-Cheese Studio and published by Wired Productions, it aims to take players on a journey like no other.

Every vinyl tells a story and transports you into another dimension. One filled with emotions and memories. You’ll slip and slide, jump and discover what has been described as a psychedelic landscape that moves in time as you play. Outside of that, you’ll unlock new records, meet a fun and colourful cast of characters, and as you progress players will deepen and expand relationships with them.

At the end of the day, when the shutters drop and the store closes, it’s the records’ time to shine with the help of George’s imagination. While some songs will make you smile from ear to ear, others will have you feeling something deeper. Remember, it’s never too late to start over, start anew or take on a new challenge!

Demo Review and Thoughts

MR.RECORDS is a game that is best experienced with the use of headphones and a controller. For myself, I defied these requests and continued on with my demo experience. Within the opening sequence, the game showcases a number of partners and advisories before giving you your first look at the game.

Accompanied by the soothing sound of falling rain, I was ready to get my insight into the world of MR.RECORDS.

Sometimes all it takes is hearing the first few notes of the song before you are transported to another world, and that’s exactly how it is for George. After looking through a few vinyls, well, relaxing is his armchair, we settle on one called Power of Imagination.

Before I knew it, we were steadily making our way through an alternate world. Jumping and sliding to the beat, learning when and when not to make a move and keeping in time with the music.

And just like that, we were back in George’s apartment, talking to a friend, and suddenly Holy Potatoes! The record store’s grand opening is tomorrow!

However, before George (and I) begin to stress more over the opening, we dive into After All to help relax before getting some much needed rest.

After another trip to a new rhythmic level, I was now opening MR.RECORDS with George (and Buzz the dog) for the very first time. Interacting with customers, listening to their requests for albums and letting them leave happy with their purchases. Who knows, the only way is up!

I continued to play the game for a little longer, and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment with the game’s demo. The prologue does an excellent job of telling you exactly what you need to know without it being too overwhelming. You get a tutorial as you progress through the demo as to how to navigate and take on different aspects of the musical levels, and even playing with a keyboard, it’s very easy to do.

I love how you have the side of exploring the different levels and songs associated with them but then actually running the record store, expanding stock and interacting with customers at the same time. It’s a nice balance between the two, and it will be fun to see how the devlops and expands in the full game as you continue to make your way deeper into the story.

MR.RECORDS is a game I highly recommend to get on your watch list and I’m excited to see what’s next for this game in the run up to it’s release and beyond.

Currently, there is no release date for MR.RECORDS, however we know that the game will release in full on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. A demo for MR.RECORDS is out now for a limited time on Steam.
