Final Fantasy XIV: Things to Do When You Don’t Know What to Do

Now, I am no expert when it comes to Final Fantasy XIV Online despite how long I’ve been playing for. If I’m being totally honest, I still count myself as a pretty new player but also someone who plays incredibly casually too. Also, if you’ve seen some of my previous Final Fantasy XIV posts, you’ll know that I have a very sporadic playtime where I’ll play for a short time then vanish from the game for a while.

However, I’ve recently returned to the game yet again and intend to cause some comedic chaos as a Lalafell going forward. While I have a lot of the main story remaining to complete in Dawntrail, I still have plenty of time before Evercold releases next year. The thing is though, I’m not always in the mood to be more focused when I’m playing. Instead, I want to explore more casual and relaxing (questionable at times) things you can do in Final Fantasy XIV.

The Gold Saucer

When I just want to have fun but still like I’ve achieved something, I’ll usually head over to The Gold Saucer and play some of the minigames, also known in-game as GATEs. Most of the time I’m trying to improve my Triple Triad skills or master the Leap of Faith however, I’m still pretty bad at both. Regardless, stepping back and just playing some mini games is just what you need. You’re still making progress and collecting Manderville Gold Saucer Points for rewards but in a light-hearted way.

Work on your Crafter Levels

I am terrible at this, I really am. However, it is something I’m working hard on improving, one job at a time. My focus at the moment is fishing, which has been fun, although I still have a lot to learn and work on first. I usually try and time it right with going on one or two of the fishing excursions to help with gaining experience.

The next one I’d like to work on is probably Weaver or maybe start off with the Culinary. Not too sure which but certainly one of the two Final Fantasy XIV jobs.

Have a Photoshoot

I love taking screenshots in Final Fantasy XIV. Whether it’s on my own or with friends, find a location and just simply strike a pose!

It’s Time to Shine!

Why not create a new glamour for your photoshoot? With so many looks, possibilities, and combinations, you’ll always be able to find a new way to change up your style.

Island Sanctuary

I’ll just come out and admit this, but I’ve neglected my island pretty much since the start. I’ve maybe done a small number of things you can do on your island, but truth be told, I kind of forget about it. That’s going to change, though. My aim is to actually start working on my more life simulation side of Final Fantasy XIV and bring my island sanctuary to life.

Just Explore

Grab your mount and just explore. You might stumble across somewhere you haven’t been before or have forgotten about. Stumble upon some side quests or an area you can help level yourself up. Maybe you stumble across and complete a treasure map. There’s certainly a lot that can happen when you just set off and see where you end up!

For me, this is a small list of some of the things I consider doing when I’m not entirely sure what I want to do in-game. Naturally there’s still the likes of dailies, the main story, running various dungeons and raids as well as jumping into events at Wolves Den. There’s no right or wrong way to play as you continue to explore Eorzea, our quests are our own, and there’s always something to do to get us one step closer to that next stage.

What are some of the things that you like to do when you are playing Final Fantasy XIV? Let me know in the comments!
