The recently released game MakeRoom is the perfect for those who love to create and builder in games. This cosy sandbox diorama builder features over 1,000 objects that players can use to build and curate a variety of different rooms. Be it a moody vampire hideaway or your own dream garden. However, you will also find a number of objectives to complete as well as quests to help unlock even more in MakeRoom. There certainly is plenty to explore in MakeRoom, with your imagination being the only limitation!
Is that all? Of course not!
Alongside the vast array of objects players can use to build these dioramas, you can resize and recolour them, but you can also use the in-game furniture builder to create your own furniture. You can even share these creations over on Steam Workshop!
Let’s Get Building!
As a longtime player of various life simulation games, I’ve spent a lot of time, probably more, in Build Mode. So, when I saw MakeRoom for the first time I loved that not only did it look incredibly cosy but also a refreshing, stress-free approach to building and crafting rooms.
So, without further ado, it’s time to grab our building gear and MakeRoom!

Being greeted with a map of various different rooms to tackle, I didn’t know where to start first! I ended up heading towards the top of the map to take on the challenge of furnishing the Reading Nook. It seemed fitting as a good starting place to hone my skills and get to know my way around the game.
Soon enough, I felt ready to move onto my next challenge, and completed a few more smaller builds before finding one that I found myself giggling at. This particular one involved the removal van that had a few hiccups along the way.

What I loved about MakeRoom is that there is no right or wrong way to play. You can recolour each item, randomize the colours, make the object bigger or smaller, change the walls, floors, windows and doors and so much more. All of this while accompanied by a relaxing and soothing soundtrack.
There’s even more still!
You can also even change the lighting, weather and time of day as well as changing the ambient sound effects some which even come with some cute on screen effects too! A cool feature that I felt was quite fun was the cleaning tab. This allows you to hoover up various piles of mess, dust away cobwebs and clean up those tricky spills before you begin renovating and making changes to some rooms you may come across!
I can’t forget about photo mode, either! Again, it packs in a number of easy to use options to create some wonderful screenshots of your MakeRoom builds!

At this point in my journey with MakeRoom, I’m wondering what other surprises I may come across?
Not only can you make your way through the various objectives and quests in MakeRoom, you can also put your skills to the test with a blank diorama. Be it a garden, room or camper, you can go ahead and craft your own unique diorama if you want instead.

I ended up creating a small little outdoor garden space and even managed to get a small log fire working with the added fire effect.
I found that having the freedom to do what I wanted in this mode allowed me to explore the objects on offer and experiment a little bit more. The search mode for helping find specific objects was incredibly handy and the variety of objects, even from the start, was plenty!
Final Thoughts
MakeRoom is a wonderful, relaxing and cosy game where you can lose yourself in creating and renovating a variety of different themed rooms. With no worries about time frames or money, you can create a space that covers the basics of what is needed or dive deeper and add in as many details as you want.
However, there are many aspects to MakeRoom that will make me keep coming back again and again. There will always be a new way of making a room, more objects to unlock, more objects to create and combinations to discover along the way. The soundtrack was so relaxing that I even found myself just sitting here enjoying it in the background as I took notes for this post!
I’m incredibly excited to see what plans Kenney has for MakeRoom going forward! However, if you need me, I’ll
MakeRoom is out now on Steam and has a limited time launch discount available. So why not go check it out?
