Top Choices: My Favourite The Sims 4 Expansion, Game, Stuff Packs, and Kits

Sims 4 Fairies

I’ve been thinking a lot about The Sims 4 recently despite the fact it has been months since I last played. Maybe it’s been because life simulation games have been a hot topic with the recent release of Paralives, or maybe I’m just missing playing at the moment.

I touched on a few reasons why I hadn’t played The Sims in general in a post back at the end of March, and even now, I’m still verging on heading back to an earlier The Sims game at some point.

However, despite this, I actually wanted to talk about The Sims 4 and some of my favourite additional content packs from over the years. It’s also important to note that I have all packs, up to and including The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits. I haven’t purchased any form of additional content since this expansion released, nor have I bought anything from the Marketplace since its launch.

For the purpose of this post, I’ve chosen my two favourite packs from each category even though I have multiple favourites for each. I will also add an honourable mention or two for each as well.

The Sims 4 Expansion Packs

The Sims 4 City Living

There’s really no surprise here. I loved this expansion. San Myshuno, apartment living, and festivals. It felt more of an expansion than Get to Work did for me and my playstyle at the time.

I would always find myself trying to see just how many ways I can bring each apartment for my Sims to life as well as working with the challenges of some of the new traits that came with the new expansion. City Living is also the first pack where I really started to try and tell a variety of stories and push myself to make my gameplay more meaningful than before.

The Sims 4 Get Famous

Hello Del Sol Valley!

At the time Get Famous was revealed and released, I was (and still am) writing about The Sims with Sims Community. Get Famous was on a pack that really grabbed my attention, and I loved writing about it for the site.

Outside of that, I loved taking my Sims and seeing what kind of career paths they loved, building homes for my somewhat famous Sims and just taking in a different side of life with my Sims. I’d never gotten a chance to really explore being famous in earlier iterations of The Sims as much as I did with Get Famous.

Honourable mentions: Cottage Living and Cats & Dogs

The Sims 4 Game Packs

The Sims 4 Parenthood

For me, this released at the perfect time. I was very much in my family gameplay era when this came out, and it just added a whole other level to my stories. Honestly, I still love a lot of what’s in the pack all these years later.

Can we also not forget the wonderful song that accompanied this particular trailer, which was Don’t Kill My Vibe by Sigrid, too!

The Sims 4 Realm of Magic

This has been the only occult pack that has really resonated with me in The Sims 4 era. While the likes of Werewolves, Vampires and Enchanted by Nature for fairies have been okay, I usually find myself coming back to the magical world of Glimmerbrook time and time again.

Honourable mentions: Strangerville

The Sims 4 Stuff Packs

The Sims 4 Moschino

Okay, so this is one stuff pack that really grew on me. It wasn’t even about the brand itself, but more about being able to set up spaces to hold photoshoots, and some of the outfits aren’t actually too bad. I even went as far as setting up a photography studio with multiple different themed areas for different shoots.

The Sims 4 Tiny Living

How small can you make a Sims home? Well, this certainly put it to the challenge as to what was acceptable when building! I may have lost a Sim or two to the folding Murphy bed, though, over time.

Honourable mentions: Movie Hangout, Laundry Day, Nifty Knitting

The Sims 4 Kits Packs

The Sims 4 Book Nook

Cosy little reading nook objects? I’ll take it!

Honestly, this works so well with so many different packs, creating a cosy little room or corner of my Sims’ homes. Even if you’re not creating a reading nook, the objects in this small kit work well across The Sims 4 library of objects.

The Sims 4 Clutter Kits (Everyday Clutter, Kitchen Clutter and Bathroom Clutter)

Clutter. Just CLUTTER!

You can never have too many options for clutter, which is why these three kits are some of my favourites to use to help bring my rooms to life. That’s all there is to it. Just simply a love for clutter items in builds.

Honourable mentions: Comfy Gamer, Industrial Loft, Incheon Arrivals, Artist Studio, Blooming Rooms, Little Campers & Pastel Pop

Closing Thoughts

Even though I’m not actively playing The Sims 4 as much at the moment, I still felt it would be nice to look back and reflect on my current favourite additional content packs for the game. While these feel true to what my core favourites are, they do switch and change from time to time, which is where the honourable mentions play their part.

Going forward, I’ve mentioned before I want to get back into The Sims at some point, although I feel it may end up being The Sims 2 or The Sims 3. As for content for The Sims 4 that I am missing, I don’t feel like I’m missing out on any of the new paid content, so those may be something I purchase in the future if my mind changes.
