The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits: Reveal and Personal Thoughts

Just a few months after the release of The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature expansion pack, we have a second one shortly on its way. This time, new horizons await our Sims in The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits expansion pack. Needless to say, I’m actually quite looking forward to this new expansion after feeling somewhat disappointed with Enchanted by Nature; however, that’s a point for another day.

Now, there has been a lot of buzz about this new expansion pack, especially since the initial leaks, the reveal, and the gameplay trailers. At first glance, it appears that this upcoming expansion has a lot of potential. Not just as an expansion pack on its own, but also when it comes to integrating features between other additional packs in The Sims 4.

Adventure Awaits Reveal

First up, we have the initial reveal trailer. At just over three minutes long, there certainly was a lot packed into it!

There was plenty to see from the new world & locations, new activities, objects, build mode, and, were those imaginary friends? A feature we haven’t seen since The Sims 4?

Needless to say, this initial announcement/reveal trailer had my attention, which made me even more excited for the full gameplay reveal trailer.

Official Gameplay Trailer

So the reveal trailer had a lot to offer, but as for the gameplay trailer, well, there was even more to showcase. Instead of breaking down every aspect of the most recent Adventure Awaits reveal, I’ve chosen several aspects that caught my attention during its reveal. This, alongside the recently updated The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits blog post, too.

Welcome to Gibbi Point

First up, I love a new world in The Sims 4 in general. It offers plenty of ways to expand on how you play your game, as well as giving you plenty more places to explore with your Sims.

Featuring three new neighbourhoods, Wanderwood Wilds, Jellyfish Junction and Crystal Valley, alongside what appears to be thirteen new lots, there certainly will be lots to do in this new expansion. Surprisingly, this expansion comes with two 64×64 lots as well as two 50×50 lots, accompanying several smaller lot sizes too.

Likewise, there looks to be some new lot types coming in this expansion pack. At a glance, it appears one is for the new Custom Venues players can create, and the other looks to link into a playground.

I have a feeling that Gibbi Point will be one of my favourite worlds from those we’ve seen more recently. Both from a storytelling perspective and a building one, too.

Getaway System

The new Getaway System features Custom Venues and the Getaway Planner. In a way, it’s something many players have wanted for some time, and while it’s not hotels per se, it’s still a great new upcoming addition to the game. I certainly feel that it is something long overdue, but this is The Sims, and we’ve found creative ways to make do until now.

Custom Venues will allow us to explore a variety of different venue types that aren’t already covered in the game, as well as letting us think up many new, imaginative venue types, too. As for the Getaway Planner, well, this certainly is going to be a lot of fun.

There seems to be a mix of pre-determined setups you can choose from, or you can go ahead and create your own.

This will be one feature that I’m incredibly excited to learn more about and experiment with myself when I dive into the pack.

New Gameplay for Child Sims

From time to time, I dive into more family game play, but for a long time now, I’ve felt like child Sims have been lacking anything new for a while and that a lot of gameplay for younger Sims has felt repetitive. However, that appears to be about to change.

With some new features coming up for Child Sims as part of the Getaway Planner, such as the Grindeset Mindset and Child Skills Elimination rules, I’m curious to see how these will integrate into my own play style.

Next, and most likely the biggest new addition, is Imaginary Friends. I’m not sure if this is something that I’ll use a lot myself, but I’ve somewhat overlooked it in the past, in the likes of The Sims 3. I feel it is something long overdue for The Sims 4, but also a welcome addition for many long-time players and newer players.

However, did someone finally say proper playgrounds? Well, it appears the wait may well be over soon with a new lot type and new customisable playground objects that we can build with. It certainly will expand on what objects we’ve had in-game already, but also future possibilities, too!

Also, archery! This looks like lots of fun; however, I’m curious to know if this activity is for all Sims or just younger Sims.

Overall Thoughts

Okay, so I somewhat ended up with three main points that had my attention from the gameplay and reveal trailer. However, overall, this expansion pack is probably one of the more recent ones that actually has my attention and interests me a lot.

I used to be a player who had to have every release for the game day one. However, now I’m much more selective as to what and when I add new content to The Sims 4. Based on what we’ve seen so far, this is likely to be an early purchase for me as it fits my current playstyle, and I think it will also work well with my Forever Save.

I’m looking forward to planning my own Getaways and Challenges in Adventure Awaits, alongside seeing just how customizable they actually can be and pushing the limit of the feature. Also, just how many different ones can I come up with for my own game?

However, I picked up on a number of the smaller details that I just loved seeing. Firstly, Void Critters on the TV! We definetly need more love for them, and my Sims may well be back in their Void Critter era when this drops.

Next up, the decor in general. I’m much more a builder than a storyteller a lot of the time, and I’ve liked a number of the new Build Buy mode additions. Especially those for the Holiday Camp set up we’ve seen in the trailer. It’s like expanding on what we saw in Outdoor Retreat back in the day, but with a new, fresh style and charm.

I could sit here for longer detailing all the aspects of the upcoming expansion that I love, although, I fear we could be here for some time! Needless to say, I’m looking forward to this one and can’t wait to find out more about the pack in the run-up to its release.
