Discovering New Ways to Play The Sims 4 with a Forever Save

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, I have a bit of a love hate relationships when it comes to The Sims at the moment. The Sims is adding fairies and a variety of new nature and outdoor content in early July, and it feels as though now is the time to try and rectify this relationship I have with the game. I’m curious and looking forward to seeing what this brings to the game going forward, but I’ll come back to that later.

Like many players, there are things I enjoy about the game, things that I don’t enjoy as much and, aspects of the game I’d like to see improved, overhauled or fixed. While this is completely normal, it isn’t so much to do about the game as a whole but more to do with the way I play The Sims.

I won’t lie, I’ve struggled a lot to get into the game more so recently. Something didn’t feel right with my current save file or the household I was playing. So, I simply would just start again to just quickly abandon that save/household I was playing. Now, I think I may have found the solution I’ve been looking for and that comes in the form of the Forever Save.

What is a Forever Save?

The idea of a Forever Save is that it’s one save and that’s it. You can’t restart or go to a new save. You just keep going with this one save indefinitely. If you get bored with your current Sim/household, you simply create or pick another and start playing with them. There’s actually a lot of freedom in a save of this style, and there are so many possibilities as to how it can play out.

There’s no strict rules or anything like that, which you typically find with many legacy or challenge saves, but you could add in your own if you wanted. I’ve tried various legacy and challenge saves in the past, and ultimately gave up not long into them. This is certainly another reason why a forever save seemed like the perfect one for me.

However, I wouldn’t have discovered The Sims 4 Forever Save play style without stumbling across this video from Yasmin’s Corner on YouTube or her accompanying article shared over on the Sims Community!

Both of these are great ways of explaining in detail how to start your Forever Save and set off on a new Simming adventure!

Crafting A New Story

It’s been a long time since I’ve sat down and properly played The Sims 4. While I’ve still enjoyed the times I’ve played recently, they weren’t really times when I felt I was achieving something. This was where, after discovering and reading more, I decided that the Forever Save would probably work for me.

As I started to build and crafting the start of my save file, I kept it simple. One new Sims, built their house, and jumped into this new life story within the save.

At this point, so early on where I’m just doing some basic skill building, I’m looking forward to seeing what lays ahead for my lonely Sim. What career will she have, will she get married and have a family, what memories will she make. I really don’t know!

Creating My First Forever Sim

It took me some time to actually get my starting Sim created. I kept overthinking it and using the story questions feature to help me, but, nothing was helping.

Eventually I thought, why not just make a kind of Sim-self. In a way, I guess I did!

Now, it was tricky to decide on which traits and starting aspiration I was going to go with. I wanted to stray from ones I don’t usually go for but ended up with a mixture which I’m okay with.

  • Aspiration: Best Selling Author (Muser Bonus Trait)
  • Traits: High Maintenance, Bookworm & Socially Awkward

I haven’t yet chosen a career for my Sim, nor have I specified any Likes and Dislikes or the cause of this Sims potential death. I’ll save those for later.

Making a House a Home

I’ve created a starting house for my Sim. It’s nothing extravagant and has the basics. I did cheat slightly, I wanted something I’d created from scratch rather than a prebuilt home. As for furnishing, it’s a little miss-matched, but I’ve focused more on creating a cosy kitchen area and a living room space to get started.

In a way, I guess you could say I’ve done this deliberately so that I can continue to work on building and expanding my home to make it truly reflect my Sim as she continues on her journey. There’s still plenty of space to fill yet, and I haven’t quite finished the garden yet, so that will take up some of the remaining money soon.

It’s nothing much right now, but it’s a starting point with plenty more room to decorate and evolve!

Introducing Fairies

With a new expansion pack on the horizon, I am curious to see how The Sims 4 Enchanted by Nature will work with my gameplay. Right now, I’ve not looked too much into what is coming with the pack and what has been revealed so far. I usually leave that up until a few days beforehand. In a way, I feel I might decide to explore being some kind of fairy later on in this forever save, but initially I’ll probably focus on the new outdoor living and nature features.

Overall Thoughts

I’m excited to actually start this. So much so that I completely deleted any old saves I had on my PC, so this is a complete fresh start in game too.

In regard to what to expect next, other than get my Sim a job, I have no idea, I might just see how the game goes for a little bit before making any big moves. Either way, this different way of playing should help breathe a breath of fresh air into the way I play and hopefully keep me from dropping the game so often or for long periods of time.

Stay tuned as I’ll be sharing updates on social media here and there as to how my Forever Save experience is going!
