Of course, we can’t forget the cast of seven celestial characters. It is said that even before the universe existed, the Space Sprites came together one by one with a dream. That dream, life. As things began to take shape, space did too. However, despite the unpredictableness, these friendly sprites decided to create the Galaxy Games. A way to train and learn how to become the next incarnation of their respective concepts.

  • Sprout: A manifestation of biology and organic life, Sprout is a personification of nature and all living things
  • Prism: A manifestation of light, Prism is a personification of electromagnetic radiation that can be perceived by the human eye
  • Luna: A manifestation of Earth’s only natural satellite, Luna is the embodiment of the night and Earth’s shifting tides
  • Sunny: A manifestation of the Star at the centre of our solar system, Sunny gives our home planet light and energy. Sunny has a close relationship with Prism and they both helped bring life to Sprout
  • Maggie: A manifestation of the magnetic fields which allow objects to attract and repel each other. Maggie has the power to bring others together, or keep them apart
  • Spark: Having shone for millions of years, Spark is the brightest of all the Spirits
  • Orbit: A manifestation of the curved path objects can follow in space when affected by gravity. Orbit will sometimes stop by for a short visit, or they’ll never leave

Taking on a new Space Adventure

At first glance, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Which Way Up Galaxy Games. I knew that there were multiple mini-games, but just how would it unfold. Despite the unknown, I jumped straight into playing.

I started off in practice mode, playing solo to get an idea of the controls. I initially made the mistake of playing with a keyboard and mouse setting, but quickly swapped to using my Xbox Controller that made things so much easier. It really did change how I played and made learning the controls a lot easier.

Progressing through the different Galaxy Games was fun. It took me a few attempts to start with to get used to each of the levels, but soon it became easier. Yes, there were still moments when movements in the level were tricky, or I would find myself jumping and going the wrong direction due to my centre of gravity, but things like that, kept you on your toes. It would pull you back in and make you keep playing. It would make you think more about how you needed to plan your next move to keep moving forward, all while trying to not run out of time.

I didn’t run into many issues, if any, during my time with Which Way Up Galaxy Games. On a couple of rare occasions, my character did get stuck however, a quick level reset fixed my issue. The only additional thing I would love to see potentially added in the future is non-playable computer characters for when it comes to playing the multiplayer mode. Other than that, no other issues or anything to report!

I had a lot of fun making my way through the various levels in the solo campaign, and learning more about traversing the galaxy. In a way, it had me thinking and feeling reminiscent of games like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros games mixed together. I can definitely see myself finding a player two to join me on my next Galaxy Games adventure in the multiplayer mode.

Overall, the cute and adorable style of the game works wonderfully for the game’s concept. I didn’t feel that the game needed voice lines, as the on-screen text was more than enough for myself. The accompanying soundtrack to the game filled any voids that may have needed it.

So, if you are looking for a fun family friendly game to add to your collection, then certainly give Which Way Up Galaxy Games a look!

The game launches on 27th March 2025 on Steam and Nintendo Switch! A free demo of the game is also available to play on Steam now.
