The Book Club: Cozy Book Adventures in Gaming

The great thing about books and video games is that it allows you to escape into different worlds. Embark on a variety of adventures, missions and side quests. Experience a journey that is not one you would normally all within the comfort of pages or with a games’ controller in hand.

Now, what if you were to put the two together? A video game about books and anything book related? Sounds like the perfect combination! We’ve seen many video games in the past incorporate reading and libraries, but what about games solely based on books and reading?

So, I took to Steam to check out some of the currently released and upcoming book themed games were out there!

Books Upon Books

Books Upon Books is an upcoming casual simulation release that allows you to create the bookshop of your dreams. The team at Mellow Flame Games wanted to give players the opportunity to customise every possible detail of the game, including the colours. As you play, you’ll be able to tend to your shop, server customers, restock books that have sold and expand your build by purchasing up to three items a day using the money you’ve made through sales.

There is currently no release date for Books Upon Books, but you can check out a demo for the game here.

Books In Wrong Places

Next up from USZEK is Books In Wrong Places. A short story about books. Featuring nine beautifully hand painted homes to explore, find missing books, trinkets, collect bookmarks and complete relaxing puzzles. Discover the story about a love of books with no worrying about time limits or scores!

You can add Books In Wrong Places to your Steam Wishlist here.

LIBRITOPIA: Librarian Simulator

Have you ever wanted to run and manage your own library? Well, now you can in the recently released LIBRITOPIA Librarian Simulator. This early access game allows you to customise the layout of your library, explore a world of different books, organise them into their relevant sections, ensure that your library visitors can easily find and navigate the library and even team up with friends in multiplayer mode!

LIBRITOPIA: Librarian Simulator is out right now in Early Access on Steam for £5.89. Wishlist or add it to your cart here.

In Your Books

In Your Books is a short adventure game from Underhill. You play as the Granddaughter of a bookseller and after her disappearance, you have no choice but to take the place of your Grandmother. Not exactly how you expect your vacation to go.

While filling in, you get to know the locals, recommend books, solve secrets and discover what happened for this respected bookseller to suddenly vanish!

Interested? In Your Books is out now, and you can find out more here.

Tiny Bookshop

Planned to release this year, Tiny Bookshop is all about opening a cute and cosy tiny bookshop by the sea. Leave the busy 9-5 life behind and pull up in some gorgeous locations with stunning views and sell a variety of pre-loved cosy books to locals.

This cosy narrative management game is everything! Decorate your cosy tiny bookshop with the various items you collect, recommend books to the right people while stocking a wide variety of different genres, befriend the Bookstonbury’s locals, explore Boostonbury-by-the-sea and learn its history and discover the most secret of secrets!

While there is no confirmed release date just yet, you can check out the free demo or wishlist the full game on Steam here!

These are just some of the many book themed games out there available to jump into right now and in the near future. I’m definitely looking forward to checking some of these out myself soon, so keep an eye out for future posts!
