Experiencing the Return of Habbo Hotel Origins in 2024

As Anne-Marie says, “I’m taken back to 2002“

Okay, maybe not quite 2002, but the early/mid-noughties for sure.

If you haven’t seen across the waves of social media over the past few days, Habbo Hotel is back. Well, it never really disappeared, but specifically the original Habbo Hotel, as many of us knew and loved playing during such pivotal times of our lives.

Appropriately named Habbo Hotel Origins, the game graced the internet once again last week. I can certainly say I didn’t have this on my bingo card for twenty, twenty-four!

A Triumphant Return

As discovered via the official Habbo Hotel Origins announcement post, files for the Habbo many of us know and love were discovered earlier this year. Macklebee, an Engineer and Developer for Sulake, and a dedicated team have worked hard over the past several months to return this classic online game.

In what was a surprise to many, Habbo fans past and present, were soon jumping back online, to try and reclaim their old usernames and experience the nostalgia.

Giving in to Curiosity

As someone who spent a lot of time on Habbo back in the day, I was curious to find out more and take a trip down memory lane.

While I didn’t get my original name back, I settled for just Leeks instead. Upon logging in for the first time and choosing my look, it was time to start exploring.

It’s important to note that the current version of Habbo Hotel Origins doesn’t have all the rooms or features that it had before it progressed into the current version of Habbo. However, there is a community approach to what features should be implemented and added back to the game over time.

Initially, I began by checking out some of the available Public Rooms that Origins has to offer currently. From the Welcome Lounge to the Habbo Library. Habbo Lido, Rooftop Rumble and even the Dirty Duck Pub. These are just some of the rooms that started to bring back childhood memories.

Of course, there are all the player-created Guest Rooms. Naturally, there were many starting to appear that emulated those from back in the day. Even some of the games such as Fallin’ Furni have seen a return. It’s almost as if nothing ever changed.

Even some of the notable established rooms and even those from fan sites are starting to build their following in the reignited original Habbo Hotel!

It really has been a trip down memory lane! While not all the features I remember from Habbo back in the day are back currently, it’s been nice rediscovering what is in the game at the moment.

Better still, I’ve run into some old friends on Habbo Hotel Origins, as well as making some new friends in the process.

Creating My Space

I will admit, I have for nostalgia purposes bought some credits for Habbo Club and a small amount of furniture. Well, furni as it is commonly known in the game. It’s nothing extravagant or special, but it’s a small room which appreciates the faithful rubber duck in the game! At least for now, I may change it up a bit over time.

Future Hopes

As for future hopes, there are a few things I’d love to see make a return. Firstly, some of the memorable rooms from Habbo back in the day, such as the lobbies and Habburger, the Habbo TV Studio and more. Truthfully, as much as there are many features I’d love to see return, I’m quite happy just playing along and seeing where things go.

A few final thoughts before rounding up this post. First up, it’s been such fun rediscovering Habbo Hotel again all these years later. Everyone that I’ve interacted with, whether it’s those I remember from previously playing or from now, it has been great fun hanging out and catching up.
