The Nintendo Switch 2 as the community are currently calling it is a hot topic at the moment online. With plenty of speculation as to what it could look like, its potential features, and even the console’s name.
However, despite some unconfirmed information about the console starting to surface on the internet, we know that the successor is to be revealed by the end of this fiscal year.
Having originally launched back in March 2015, the Nintendo Switch has gone from strength to strength during its lifetime. Not only have some incredible first-party Nintendo games, but such a wide variety of games from other developers and countless indie games that just make the Nintendo Switch experience amazing.
My Hopes For The New Switch
While there are a lot of features I’d love to see on the upcoming console, I’ve narrowed it down to what I would say are my top hopes at this moment in time.
- Backwards Compatibility: With how many games are out there for the Nintendo Switch plus those that are currently in my collection, I would like to hope we’d have a way that we can still play them once the new console is released.
- Virtual Console: While I love the current Virtual Console options that we currently have on the Nintendo Switch, it would be nice to see this expand to other consoles. Nintendo DS, Wii and Wii U games would be amazing to both experience for the first time and even experience some favourites. Of course, alongside the existing virtual console experience, it would be nice to see more added to it.
- Digital Library: Ultimately, I’m just hoping that all of the digital purchases we have made on the Nintendo Switch carry over (along with any saved data) instead of not being allowed to carry them over.

While that’s just some of the top hopes I have, more so for games on the upcoming Nintendo Switch console, I’m still curious to see what hardware changes that Nintendo will make to the new console. Here are a few hopes that I’d like to see when it comes to hardware for the new console.
- OLED Screen as Standard
- Improved Battery Life
- Improved JoyCons with no more JoyCon Drift
- Current Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to work with the new Console
- Different Base Internal Storage Options (for example 32GB and 64GB options)
Again, these are just a few of the things I’d like to see for the new Nintendo Switch Console.

There are still a few aspects of the Nintendo Switch experience I’d like to see either added or improved upon going forward. While they wouldn’t make or break my own personal experience, these are things I feel that the Nintendo Switch Community have shared during the lifetime of the current Nintendo Switch console.
- Profile Themes
- Improved eShop experience
- The return of MiiPlaza
- Online Services are more in line with what we see on other consoles
- The return of the nostalgic transparent colour scheme
- An easy way to share/save screenshots and videos

There’s still a long way before we know the exact details as to what we will see coming with the new Nintendo Switch console. Of course, this raises many questions as to when, after the announcement, we will see it launch? The price of the new console, as well as potential launch day game releases and more!
What are your thoughts on the upcoming Nintendo Switch console? Is there anything in particular you are hoping to see? Let me know in the comments!
