A Deserted Island Getaway Four Years Later

In a way, it seems hard to believe that we were just days away from the latest instalment of the Animal Crossing series. Single digits. It had honestly felt like a lifetime. From the days of playing Animal Crossing New Leaf on the Nintendo 3DS to the initial reveal of New Horizons, the excitement was unlike anything else for a new game launch.

However, as we all know, Animal Crossing New Horizons essentially released right as the world was going into lockdown. For many of us, it was something that helped keep us busy and pass the time during this time.

And So It Begins

It’s launch day, you were hoping to get a physical copy of the game but due to the demand opted for the digital version. It’s ready. Downloaded. It’s time to hit play.

Before you know it, you’re taking your first on your own Island Paradise. Building up your community, selecting residents, harvesting resources, crafting items and more.

Developing the island to be your own Island Paradise can be tricky. Unlocking different game features step by step felt overwhelming to a degree but soon, you had every tool at your fingertips. Exploring every aspect of the game, visiting mystery islands, friends and enjoying island life!

Returning Home & Possible Makeover?

It’s been about seven months since I last jumped over onto my Island. Even before then, I hadn’t got that far into restoring my island back to its former glory.

Upon exiting my island home, I discovered that the flowers had grown out of control and there were weeds everywhere. I had been toying with the idea of giving my island a bit of a makeover for about a month as a way of getting back into the game. My island was very much just a basic layout and theme, with a couple of smaller areas being more thought out.

My household inventory still sits pretty full and could really do with selling a lot of what’s there off to have a fresh start. I know I don’t want to start over again, but just give my island a new lease of life.

I’m still unsure what kind of theme I want to go with at the moment, but currently exploring some different ideas which also make use of a lot of the objects I’ve got sitting around my island and in my inventory.

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Paradise

This is another part of the game that I really need to get behind again. I loved it previously, but have only really scratched the surface this time around. Honestly, I love and really enjoy the whole idea behind this additional content and will definitely be an area to explore soon in more detail.

Four Years of New Horizons

It seems weird to think that it’s been four years since the release of Animal Crossing New Horizons, and it’s still going strong now! Still highly popular and people jumping into the game for the first time. While I’ve taken breaks from playing for several months, a couple of times. I still love diving back into the game and just falling back into exactly where I was last as if it was nothing. Okay, my villagers are a little shocked I’ve returned and have been missing for a while, however, they soon forget about that.

I would love to have seen another update or two before Nintendo stopped supporting the game as they did. Overall, I feel happy with what we can do in the game, and there’s still plenty I can do in the game to keep me occupied and enjoy playing after all this time.

LEGO Animal Crossing

Now, I couldn’t write this without mentioning the latest LEGO collection that has just been released. I still have a couple of part-finished sets I’m hoping to finish very soon so that I can get on and start building my own LEGO island! The other challenge is just finding where I’m going to put them once they are complete. I’ve got an idea but will probably need to reorganize the current LEGO display.

The Future of Animal Crossing

I’d like to hope we will see another Animal Crossing game in the future, although it is likely to be once Nintendo release their next console. Hopefully, we’ll find out more about that soon too! There has been a lot of talk about a recent leak or two for the next Animal Crossing game recently as well. I’ve seen a few posts online about it and while, if that information is true, it would be cool to see what has been mentioned in a future game. I’m staying optimistic and trying not to read into it too much while remaining hopeful of an official reveal from Nintendo in the future.

Are you still playing Animal Crossing New Horizons now, or maybe you picked up the new LEGO sets? Let me know in the comments below what your Animal Crossing thoughts are!

  1. Looking back, it’s amazing how much Animal Crossing helped people in lockdown, and I loved reading about that. I personally did not spend too long in the game, as I was a bit burnt out from spending so much time on the DS, Wii, and 3DS games, but I totally see why it brought in a new audience, and I’m glad to see the series stronger than ever.

Whenever I talk to my friends who own a Switch, they invariably talk about Animal Crossing first; it’s one of those games which is accessible to everyone, which is brilliant. Can’t wait to see what they do for the next one, and what fraudulent behaviour Tom Nook has planned next, haha!

  2. I loved how much comfort this game brought to people during lockdown. It’s also invariably the game my friends who buy a Switch talk about, even if they are not huge gamers, so I love how accessible it is.

Cannot wait to see what fraudulent behaviour Tom Nook has planned for us in the next game, haha. 🙂

  3. It’s kind of neat many of us will forever remember this as the lockdown game. 30 years from now I’ll still associate it with that. However, I haven’t touched it in years. Actually, the day of its one year anniversary was the last day I played it. I could have easily kept playing but at some point I had to stop if I wanted to play other games.
