Collector’s Cove is a brand new and exciting farming simulation game that takes you out to the high seas. Set off with your new animal companions into unknown waters, create a floating farm full of crops and develop your skills in fishing, and become the one and only Named Collector!
For me, Collector’s Cove has been a game on my radar for many months. One that I’m incredibly excited for and can’t wait to share my initial experience with you all. Before I dive in, pun somewhat intended, why not take a look at the latest announcement trailer for the game?
So, what did you think of the short but sweet trailer? Intrigued to find out more? Let’s dive into the game’s core features!

About the Developer
Before we set sail, let’s first talk about Collector’s Cove developer VoodooDuck.
Hailing from Duisburg in Germany, the four-person VoodooDuck team has been hard at work getting Collector’s Cove ready for the world to experience. If you aren’t familiar with their previous work, it includes the soft strategy game Growth.

Ready to Set Sail? Let’s Go!
Collector’s Cove is one of this year’s wholesome and cosy games where it takes the farming and life simulation features many of us love and puts them into a whole new perspective. Where else can you set sail, make friends, grow crops and explore the ocean all in one place?
Before I dive into my thoughts on Collector’s Cove, I want to preface this, as this post will focus primarily on the first seven days of the game, just like you can in the demo. I’ll be following up shortly after this post with a second post, which will include more of my thoughts and experience as I progress further into Collector’s Cove.
So, let’s get to it and set sail on a brand new and exciting adventure!
Character Creation
First things first, I needed to customise my character, and I actually really liked how my character turned out. While the character creation is simple and straightforward, there are plenty of colourful options to choose from.
Each piece of clothing comes in a variety of colours, styles and patterns, including a very cool looking goose banana, to name a few! There are a number of different hairstyles to help complete your look, again in various colours as well. Both the character’s bag and belt can be toggled on and off. Just don’t forget to name your character or keep the game generated name.
And so, it begins!
Coming out of character creation, we meet Uncle Jerry. He begins to unfold the opening moments of the game. He is the family member who will be guiding us through our journey and teaching us everything we need to do. At least until our parents return.
Our goal moving forward is to become a Named Collector and have a fully complete Compendium too.
Upon learning how to navigate basic camera controls, we gave Marty a quick cuddle and made our way to the island to meet Uncle Terry.

As I begin to establish myself as a new collector, I need to learn the basics. With a set of tools from Uncle Terry, it was time to get used to using them. This was very straightforward, and in no time I’d completed my first tasks. Of course, it looks like I’ll be able to upgrade the tools at some point in the future.
Fishing was easy to pick up as well. It’s all about keeping in mind the tension on the line and timing when you do and don’t try to reel in a fish.
Meeting our Companion
Much like Marty, whom we meet initially, I find myself in a new screen where I can customise and name my collecting companion. Similar to the character customisation, this follows the same pattern.
To start with, there aren’t as many options to pick and choose from in some categories, but it gives the impression that some of the clothing options, such as hats, will unlock as you play through Collector’s Cove.
Setting Sail on Our Own
Now we truly were about to be on our own. Uncle Terry has just taught us about stamina and feeding Berry. Uncle Jerry, however, ran over a few more vital bits of information before we finally set sail properly on our own. At this point in the game, we are well and truly into day number three.
My crops are starting to go, my water station is ready, my mailbox is empty, and Berry and I are onto our next island! I was curious to see what the first solo island would be like and what kind of surprises I might find.
Soon enough I’d completed all the tasks needed to become a Novice Collector and was about to set off sailing to a new destination.
In the meantime, and once Marty and the family had arrived, I was able to take a look at some trade stands. There are three different ones you can find an array of different helpful items. The first is the farmers’ market, selling a variety of seeds and other helpful items. Next is the Sailor’s Shop, which provides you with upgrade options for your boat. Lastly, there’s the Secret Seller, who, well, sells a mixture of items, but you trade with him rather than buy the items with coins.
Quests, Quests & Quests
Now, after unlocking a couple more blueprints and setting off to another island, I knew my priority would be to gather as many more resources as I could. Of course, this is alongside catching more fish and working towards my collector rank.
As I set off travelling to this next island, I had decided to choose the one that took the longest to get to. I used the time to replant some crops and just take in the ocean views.
To help pass the time while sailing to the next island, I did a mixture of fishing and using the plunger gun to retrieve the crates and barrels in the water. These helped build up my resources while waiting to arrive at the next destination.

Finally, I arrived at the next island and hopped over to see what was going on. The first thing I needed to do was gather resources to build the workbench and smelter.
With these now done, I’m now able to start upgrading my tools, and with that, the first thing I did was expand how much my bag could hold. Secondly, it was time to fish again. I wanted to build up just how much fish I had to help keep Berry’s stamina up and also to use to sell/trade going forward.
Now, I was fast approaching the end of day number seven, which is the point in the game where I’m going to pause for now.
Initial First Impressions
What can I say? So far, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with Collector’s Cove. The first seven days have really helped set up the game’s foundations and given me the information I need to get me started on my collecting journey.
Navigating the game in general is easy to do, as is knowing how to use each of the tools. Building is easy, and I actually really like the grid system and how it helps you position each object and helps you make the most out of the limited space you have.
Being able to toggle your current quest on and off directly on screen, I found, was helpful, as sometimes I wanted to have it always showing, whereas other times I didn’t need it showing so often. Just a quick button toggle and it’s there on demand.
The compendium is also incredibly easy to follow and navigate. You can easily see where you are with collecting, what you have and haven’t collected and what you can unlock as you rank up.

For the most part, my time with Collector’s Cove so far has been wonderful. I’m excited to see where my collector’s journey takes me next and just how long it will truly take me to become a named collector.
I can certainly see this as another game to sit down and get cosy with of an evening, but I’m also curious to see how the game plays on Steam Deck, which I’ll make note of in the next post. You can play at your own pace, explore how you want and chip away at progressing in any way you want within reason. Of course, this all goes towards the main storyline, which runs alongside your ocean adventures.
I’m looking forward to seeing where our days take us next!
