So, it’s been a few days now since the extended trailer for Pokémon Pokopia was released. It’s given me time to watch it a few more times and to really gather my thoughts about the trailer as well as what I hope the game to be when it releases next year.
At just over 10 minutes long, there was plenty to check out throughout the trailer. It certainly gave us more of an insight as to what to expect from the initial trailer.

What is Pokémon Pokopia?
Pokémon Pokopia is the upcoming cosy life simulation game from Game Freak and KOEI TECMO GAMES. With a planned release on Nintendo Switch 2 in March 2026, players take the place of a Ditto who has ended up on a desolated island. It had certainly seen better days however, with the help of the Pokémon and Ditto’s own transformative abilities, it was time to bring the island back to life!
Imagine the perfect Pokémon paradise awaiting you.
Collect materials, grow plants, build homes and more as you truly customize every aspect of this new Pokopia paradise!
Here’s a sneak peek at the extended trailer that was released on 13th November 2025!
Deep Dive into the Extended Trailer
Based on what we saw in the reveal trailer, Pokémon Pokopia is shaping up to being something pretty special and in a way unique when it lands on Nintendo Switch 2 next year. However, after watching the reveal, I knew I wanted to find out more about the game and answer some of the questions I had about the game.
Luckily, the extended trailer did just that. However, with that, I wanted to highlight some of my favourite aspects of what was showcased during that trailer.
Meet The Protagonist
One thing that took me by surprise is that you play as Ditto in the game.
Our favourite transforming Pokémon friend is the start of the show, just in human form. Even that had me thinking, just how much could our Ditto do using his moves?
Apparently, quite a bit! By adopting moves from other Pokémon, Ditto is able to use those moves and utilize them in different ways to help rebuild the island. Of course, alongside the help of the Pokémon on the island too!
One of my favourites was Ditto becoming a Lapras variant (and channelling their inner Misty) and swimming across the ocean to get to other areas of the island.

New Pokopia Variants
In previous main line games and the trading card game, we’ve seen Pokémon variants that are exclusive to those areas. For example, Paldean Tauros, Alolan Dugtrio and Galarian Ponyta to name a few. However, in Pokémon Pokopia we have some brand new and never before seen Pokémon variants.
These new Pokémon are Peakychu, Mosslax and a Smearguru who are variants of Pikachu, Snorlax and Smeargle. I’m sure there will be more revealed as we get closer to the game’s launch!
Creating Pokémon Habitats
Every Pokémon is different and will have different preferences. I’m curious to see just how many different habitats I can create and which Pokémon they attract.

I did also love how they incorporated Trubbish into the trailer too in this funny moment.

Making Moves
I’ve briefly mentioned our protagonist Ditto using transform to turn into a human form and how they can learn moves from other Pokémon. Even from the trailer, you can see some of the many moves you can learn and how you can use them to help rebuild and maintain the island.

Playing with Friends
I know of a number of my friends and family members who are planning on picking up Pokémon Pokopia when it launches next year. I’m excited to explore our islands and play together alongside the Pokémon!

Overall Thoughts
Pokémon Pokopia is certainly one of my game announcement highlights of the year. I love games of this style and nature, and the fact it’s themed around Pokémon is even better. I do still have some questions that haven’t yet been answered about the game, but there’s still plenty of time between now and even post launch for those to be answered.
I can certainly see this as a game I’ll be putting a lot of hours into so that I can explore as much as possible within the game and create the perfect Pokémon paradise for my island Pokémon. With the help and guidance from Professor Tangrowth along the way, I can’t wait to see where my Pokopia journey takes me!

As of right now, I feel my only slight concern is if Pokémon Pokopia just a Pokémon Version of the Animal Crossing games or merely inspired by. It’s difficult to say just how much, if any, really, but it’s just one of those tiny worries in the back of my head. Despite that, I do feel that this is a great move for the Pokémon games franchise to explore the cosy life simulation genre in a new way.
While we are still a few months away from the official release, I’m optimistic that we’ll see more video content, maybe even a Pokémon Pokopia Direct at some point in the new year.
