A new challenge has entered the arena when it comes to cosy life simulation games launching in 2026!
Today’s new entrant, however, was somewhat unexpected when revealed during the September Nintendo Direct. It comes in the form of Pokémon Pokopia. Yes, that’s right, a cosy Pokémon life simulation game.
Currently, all the information we have is related to the reveal trailer and from the Pokémon website in its news release. Although this is more than enough to get Pokémon fans curious and excited, ready for its 2026. Pokémon Pokopia appears to also be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive and will have both a digital and physical release.
Pokémon Pokopia Trailer
First off, take a look at the trailer for the newly revealed Pokémon Pokopia!
What did you think of the trailer?
Of course, this is the first Pokémon life simulation game fans are getting, and while many were hoping for Animal Crossing news, many have welcomed this as a nice surprise in the mean time.
Honestly, this was certainly an unexpected reveal from the Nintendo Direct. You’ve got many fan favourite Pokémon featured, as well as Ditto taking the leading role in its transformed human form. Adding in many popular mechanics, including collecting materials, building furniture, growing various vegetables, all while working on creating some super cosy homes for your Pokémon.
However, you won’t be doing any of those tasks without the help of various moves from other Pokémon! For example, take Bulbasaur, your Ditto character will be able to use Leafage to create grass areas for other Pokémon. Followed by using Squirtle’s water gun move to keep the grass hydrated and in good condition!
Overall, though, Pokémon Pokopia is shaping up to be one of the biggest life simulation games of next year!
What Did I Think of the Reveal?
Needless to say, I’m very excited.
When Ditto first appeared on screen, I thought it might be a remake of one of the older games, similar to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. I also thought this had something to do with Pokémon Champions, which is to be released next year, and possibly even Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. How very wrong I was!
Then, as soon as Ditto transformed, I found myself even more intrigued. Now, as the trailer unfolds, I found myself wanting to know more, needing to see more, and ultimately wanting to know when it’s launching.

I really liked how your Ditto Human character embraces the moves of various Pokémon as shown in the trailer. It certainly is a unique way of crafting the world and Pokémon homes in-game. I feel that this choice is an interesting change compared to the traditional tools we usually see in games of similar themes.
The trailer does an excellent job of showing off a first look at Pokémon Pokopia. I do like how the Pokémon games franchise explores and experiments with other genres and finds interesting ways to expand the Pokémon games library.
As a first for Pokémon, diving into the world of cosy life simulation games, I feel this is a good start. It appears to have several familiar mechanics and features that those who have played similar games will spot. There will be plenty of aspects of the Pokémon world that will be easily recognisable from the various Pokémon, to the Pokémon Center, Ditto’s moves and much, much more! It will be like walking around and exploring your own crafted Pokémon world!
One last thing I wanted to add is that I did not expect this to be a Game Freak and Koei Tecmo Games collaboration either! That certainly was a cool surprise.
I do feel this will be a great game for those looking for their first life simulation game, as well as those who know the genre. Not only that, I think those who have enjoyed the likes of the Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons games will enjoy Pokémon Pokopia as well as fans of Minecraft too!
Hopefully, it won’t be too long until we find out more about this upcoming life simulation game. For now, what are your thoughts on Pokémon Pokopia? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
