Are you ready to become the new Mayor of Go-Go Town? Of course you are!

Your next adventure, whether you want to accept it or not, is to take the currently abandoned Go-Go Town and turn it around into a thriving and bustling town instead!

Go-Go Town initially launched back in June 2024 as an Early Access game on Steam. You’ll find yourself exploring your once-abandoned and soon-to-be-tourist destination, managing various aspects of the city, farming different crops, mining, cutting down trees, fishing, building, finding residents and more.

However, as part of this year’s ANZ Indie Showcase, I’m excited to bring you not only my first impressions of the game but also talk about what the Prideful Sloth Team have planned for the game going forward!

Game Features

Described as a game that features town management, resource gathering, building, buying and selling, Go-Go Town has a lot to offer!

But what are some of the game’s core features?

  • City Management
  • Building
  • Resource Gather & Automation
  • Farming & Fishing
  • Entertaining Tourists
  • Resident Housing and Management
  • Modular Customization
  • Local Multiplayer Co-Op Play

The Early Days of a New Mayor

So, we’ve arrived in Go-Go Town? Now what?

Well, you start with taking the first steps to become Mayor with some assistance from slightly shifty-looking people guiding you through a tutorial, as such. I began by following the steps from the Agents, explored the initial starting area, gathered resources and built a few tools and pieces of machinery to help me along the way.

Suddenly, I’ve begun crafting a variety of resources needed specifically for building some shops and homes. While it’s not much, I have a few different shops, one selling food and another that has some gifts. It’s not much, but a start.

Now, my first wave of tourists has arrived in Go-Go Town. Is what I’ve created so far enough? Well, it looks like it is for now.

The Finer Details

Having followed the Agent’s tutorial at the start, it was time to look at the game in more detail.

Building

I really enjoyed the building mode in Go-Go Town. It was very different to what I’ve experienced in other town management games and very easy to use. The freedom to really build where you want was a nice surprise, as it really allows you to truly create a one-of-a-kind town. The ease of picking up buildings and changing things up with no penalties. Grab resources that you need to build (and also stock your shops), and soon you can watch your residents make themselves at home, as well as the tourists spending plenty of their money at the various traders and buildings.

However, you also have a variety of options to add finer details, decorations, and add roads and pavements along the way. You can paint and repaint to your heart’s content and switch and change things up easily and quickly.

Resource Management

Whether you want to gather the various resources yourself, or if you want to have the residents of your Go-Go Town become your workers, you can. You can even go as far as automating resource gathering and even production.

While I’ve added some workers to my Mining and Forestry area, I haven’t yet automated any processes just yet, but that’s my next move. I have somewhat neglected my farming and fishing areas at the moment as I’ve been distracted with other aspects of Go-Go Town.

Go-Go Town Mobile

I actually really like the Phone app you use throughout the game. It’s packed full of handy apps which include a calendar, a map, a game guide, the Townpedia, Sloth Tunes, EGO Tech and more!

Currently, my most used app on my phone is EGO Tech. This is where you can redeem in-game currency called EGO that allows you to unlock various aspects of the game. This includes automation of different areas of the game, starter kits and expanding upon different areas of the game.

Inventory & Storage

While I don’t feel as though I have mastered the art of inventory and storage management just yet. I’m certainly making progress. It has been tricky, but having options such as small and large storage boxes, your backpack and sometimes the odd vehicle, there are options available.

Also, don’t forget you can drop certain items/resources off at the various shops to help them out with their stock!

Residents & Tourists

I think out of the half a dozen residential homes I’ve built, all but one space has been filled. I’ve just been keeping a lookout for potential residents as they’ve been arriving in town. Fulfilling any requests they may have along the way.

As for tourists, other than causing mayhem as I drive around town, I’ve mainly just left them to do what tourists do for the time being.

Big Plans For Go-Go Town

Even from the launch of Go-Go Town on Steam last year, the game has received a variety of updates, both large and small, along the way.

Most recently, the team launched the Tourist Trap update. This is the fifth major update to the game since its early access launch. This particular update comes with new tourist personalities, demands and preferences, as well as being able to set your own preferences and desires.

Food & shopping ratings have arrived alongside new tourist thought bubbles, Easy-Goers as a new tourist type alongside Robots, Dinosaurs, Aliens and Clowns to name a few that will be sure to make an entrance.

However, this fifth major update added cliff terraforming, once you’ve reached and unlocked a particular [REDACTED] part of the game alongside more major landmarks, new recipes, and waterfalls. water jets and general quality of life updates.

This seriously was a jam-packed update for Go-Go Town!

Future Updates

With more updates planned going forward, Go-Go Town will also be launching on Nintendo Switch in Spring 2026, which was revealed in a recent Nintendo Indie Direct.

Overall First Impressions

I am hooked on Go-Go Town!

I’ve always loved games that mix a variety of features into them but at the same time remain cosy and fun at the same time. For me, Go-Go Town is just that. From the general town management, to the resource gathering, building and managing my shops and homes, causing chaos and turning this small abandoned town into the number one tourist hot spot, is perfect.

There’s no pressure to get things done in a certain timeframe, no suspicious acting Nook is asking me to repay my outrageous loans, and the game is just charming and offers plenty of variety. The added option of being able to control when the train station is open, allowing visitors, is excellent too.

Yes, you have various challenges you can complete, features to unlock, and a town ranking leadboard to climb up, but it’s all at your own speed.

I love the art style, the music, and the overall vibes of the game. The random moments in-game, the driving around town on various vehicle types. The gameplay from what I’ve played so far is fun and refreshing, and it’s the perfect game to pick up as and when you want. Playing on the Steam Deck gives you that real cosy vibe and is wonderful to sit and unwind with after a long day.

Go-Go Town is one of the best early access games I have played in a long time. It has plenty to offer, lots of fun gameplay to experience and is the cosy game I’ve been searching for recently. I’ve enjoyed every moment I’ve played so far, and I’m looking forward to seeing where my journey as Mayor takes me, as well as waiting to see what the team has planned next for the game!

So, get ready to plan, build and prosper in Go-Go Town!

Go-Go Town is out now as an early access game on Steam. It is also launching on Nintendo Switch in Spring 2026.
