Have you ever wondered what it would be like to manage your own discount supermarket? Well, soon you’ll be able to with the upcoming casual, role-playing, simulation game Discounty!
Developed by Crinkle Cut Games and published by PQube, Discounty will let you live your retail dreams and drama in the town of Blomkest. The game launches on 21st August 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. However, in the meantime, you can also check out the free demo on Steam.
Why are you in Blomkest?
Well, your Aunt has kindly invited you to help run and fix the local discount supermarket during the summer. However, what she probably forgot to tell you is that it’s in a run-down area of this once bustling and lively harbour town. While others have likely failed in similar situations in the past, your mission will be to turn this shop around and help see it thrive and create profit.
So, are you ready for a challenge?

Game Features
As previously mentioned, Discounty is a casual simulation game with role-playing features. You design and manage your own shop, get involved with the locals, make trade deals and more!
However, that’s not all!
- Build friendships or become enemies with the local residents
- Discover Blomkest’s hidden secrets
- Gain the trust of manufactures to create trade deals
- Keep your supermarket stocked, manage deliveries and optimise availability
- Create eye-catching displays for customers
- Server your customers in a timely fashion and keep them happy
- and much, much more!

Diving Into The Demo
Discounty is one game that I’ve been following for some time now. Not only because of the concept and the art style, but because working in retail makes it feel very relatable in some ways. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that, either.
Anyway, diving into the demo for the first time, I was greeted with a quick character creator. A very straightforward character creator with a variety of options to chose from to craft yourself in game. Each of the options actually gave you a number of different colours and shades to choose from, which I liked especially when it came to hair colour!

With my character created, it was into learning what Discounty was all about.
The Steam demo, which is described as short and sweet, is the perfect way to give you an idea of what Discounty is all about and learn some of the basics of the game!

Here is where you are introduced to the Executive Sales Assistant called Grace. She walks you through the basics of navigating your Personal Digital Assistant, placing shop fittings, your tool belt, accepting deliveries, restocking and learning how to process a customer’s shopping.
All of these basic interactions will help prepare you not only for Discounty’s grand opening, but also as you move forward to growing and expanding your store.
It’s actually very easy to do all of these different tasks, as well as keeping track as to what you are supposed to be doing. Thank you super handy PDA! I was curious to see how doing these tasks would be implemented into the game and if they would be hard to understand, however, it’s incredibly straightforward.
My biggest curiosity when it came to just day to day running of Discounty was manning the checkout. How would that work? Would it be complicated. Not in the slightest!

Simply find the item the customer has, multiply that amount by how many, and press enter to check out the customer! Easy-peasy!
When I wasn’t manning the store, which is usually between 8am-4pm, I found myself exploring the local area, wondering why there were so many sheep roaming around, getting to know the locals and attempting to start up some local trade deals. There is also some kind of mysterious event happening where a biohazard team had cordoned off the forest, which, if I’m being honest, is somewhat suspicious and out of the blue.
However, the last thing I needed to do before opening the store was ensure that displays were fully stocked and ready to go for another day of serving the small community of Blomkest.

Overall Thoughts
The Discounty demo has been a wonderful introduction to the game and also to the start of the story. While it took me about an hour to play through, that was plenty of time to get an idea of Discounty and what to expect when the game launches in August.
I love the concept of the game, the introduction through the demo, the art style and graphics overall, the music and the characters you meet during the demo. Everything about Discounty so far has been marvellous and so far has everything I enjoy in a game! Of course, while still leaving me curious as to what’s to come!
While there’s just under a couple of months until the game launches, the demo is still available on Steam to check out.
Discounty is certainly on my radar, and I’m very much looking forward to checking out the full game when it launches properly. I’m curious to see if I can turn around Discounty and make it into an exciting shopping experience for the Blomkest locals, as well as striking up a good deal or two along the way!
