Curious to find out more? Well, here are some insights into some of the features we’ve seen in the trailer and what we know so far.

What Is Aniimo?

Aniimo is the upcoming creature-catching game that is heading its way to Xbox consoles, PC and by looks of it mobile in 2026. Revealed as a free to play, new generation of creature capturing style game that will feature a vast open world for players to explore.

There’s no denying that the trailer showcases a lot of interesting looking features, locations and creatures. The game at first glance looks stunning graphically, full of lots of smaller details and certainly lots to explore and do.

A Deeper Dive into the Trailer

The start of the trailer showcases more of what we can expect in Aniimo whereas the latter has a closer look at some of the features in the game. It also features some current in-progress footage from the team behind the game.

Creature Documentation

While most notably, Aniimo is described as a next-generation creature capturing game, you’ll have an encyclopedia, similar to what we’ve seen Pokémon do with the Pokédex to document the creatures that you discover on your Pathfinder journey.

As well as documenting the various Aniimo’s you come across with, there appears to be a kind of battle-pass-style feature at the bottom of the screen. Now, this might well just be a progress bar that develops the more Aniimo’s you discover which rewards you for completing certain milestones, it might not be that at all, however with the upcoming Closed Beta, I’m sure the community will finally learn what it’s for.

Catching Aniimo’s & Research Points

Within the trailer, we also see one of likely many ways to capture other Aniimo’s. Simply by releasing your selected Aniimo towards others of the same type and interacting with them.

Although it would appear that the more of one kind of creature you “catch” you will be able to gain research points. Once obtaining these points, you’re then able to spend them on researching various topics and asking some very important questions.

Become One with your Partner

Again, in the trailer and it comes up a few times, you see yourself alongside your Aniimo’s or transforming and becoming one with them. This looks like a really fun feature to explore in the game. Allowing you to take on a number of experiences, as well as utilising the powers and skills of various Aniimo’s and see the world through their eyes.

Boss Fights

How about teaming up alongside your team and taking on stronger Aniimo’s that you come across out and about in the world?

Exploration & Transportation

With such a variety of different Aniimo’s to explore, there’s going to be plenty of places to explore and discover in this new open world. Different biomes and environments for different types of creatures, alongside hidden treasures and surely quests to carry out!

It would also appear that as a Pathfinder, you have a number of ways to traverse the new environments, be it walking, running, using your Aniimo or the hoverboard that is shown near the start of the trailer.

Meet The Aniimo’s

While not shown in detail in the trailer, over on the Aniimo website, they have a handful of cute and adorable creatures with more details!

Each of these Aniimo’s appear in the trailer in some way, and it’s nice to discover a little more information about them as well as their names. Truthfully, they just look super cute and adorable!

Overall Thoughts

It’s safe to say that Aniimo is certainly on my radar to keep track of and dive into when it launches next year. I’m curious to discover not only a new open world, but discover if it truly is a next generation creature capturing game.

There is a lot within the trailer that gives us a great idea as to what the game is about and some of the many features and creatures you can meet on your Pathfinder journey. I’m curious to find out what part Astra plays in the storyline as well and why it seems to be important, other than being the place that your character is from.

Aniimo’s look cute and adorable and while some might not be so friendly, there is a lot of variety showcased in the creatures. I’m interested in also seeing more about evolution of Aniimo’s as well as the varying types, powers and, skills that they possess.

While I am excited about Aniimo, it’s not without some smaller concerns.

Many of us know how Palworld was received and the likeness it has to Pokémon in some ways. Palworld was fun to check out when it first launched, partly because of the hype around the game too and how it was different to other games supposedly, however it quickly became very repetitive for me and I lost interest a lot sooner than I thought. That’s not to say it’s a bad game, just not one that was for me.

We’ve also previously had DokeV. A game that was first revealed back in 2021 but has been somewhat quiet ever since. While it’s rumoured to still be actively in development, there’s been no real news for a long time now. At first, I thought this may have been a refreshed/new look for DokeV. Even the trailer’s accompanying soundtrack still has me thinking it’s from the same producer who created DokeV’s soundtrack. Who knows, it could just be a coincidence.

As for the likeness with Pokémon, there are elements that seem inspired by the much loved franchise, but it’s still hard to tell truly to what extent that is.

Overall, right now and based on what information is out there about Aniimo, this upcoming game from Pawprint Games is exciting and interesting. It has an adorable and somewhat cosy feel to it, while keeping with the more adventure and action side of games. Think along the lines of Infinity Nikki for example.

There certainly is still a lot to find out about the game ahead of its release. You can currently pre-register for the game on the Aniimo website, as well as register for upcoming Closed Beta Testing sessions.

What are your thoughts on Aniimo? Is it a game that you’ll be following and playing when it launches next year?
