Now, this is slightly different from the normal games I showcase here but let me introduce to you, Yasha Legends of the Demon Blade. This is an action adventure RPG with rougelite mechanics and fantasy elements. The game launches on Nintendo Switch, Steam, Xbox and PlayStation on 15th May 2025!

The game developed and published by 7QUARK who are also known for the games Birdie Wing, Mr Catt and Super String Girls as well as Game Source Entertainment who are also publishing the game Ratatan this year.

Introducing Yasha Legends of the Demon Blade

Yasha Legends of the Demon Blade takes place in the Edo period. Players will find themselves immersed in an authentic Japanese Realm where you engage in combat with various enemies and demons and perform seamless combo attacks,

Embarking on a journey in a world full of chaos, demons and aiming to reclaim peace, you’ll also find yourself up against the demon of all demons, the Nine Tailed Fox! What lies ahead may well be challenging, but you will do anything to piece together the truth and restore the world as it once was.

However, that’s not all!

There are multiple replayable stories in Yasha Legend of the Demon Blade, where you can master even more distinctive combat technique and discover unique storylines. With multiple new exclusive weapons and captivating narratives that link into the three core characters. Of course, as you explore the story, master combat and explore the distant lands, you’ll find yourself collecting Soul Orbs. These are infused with mysterious talents that will hold a blessing from the Neko Shrine, allowing you to help tailor your strategy for each adventure.

Players will also be able to unlock Dream Recipes for a little extra boost, alongside an array of items. You can also take on hidden challenge stages to test and push yourself to the limit and finally, take part in the Demon Festival. A place where you meet more of the kind-hearted demons and powerful potential allies.

Meet The Heroes

There are three main heroes that you can choose to play as throughout Yasha Legends of the Demon Blade. Each with their own stories, personality, combat techniques and weapons. As you progress through the game, you’ll not only lean how to harness their abilities and attributes but also long-lost weapons. These together will help you build your own battle tactics as you traverse the world.

Shigure – Demon Blade

Voiced by Yoko Hikasa, Shigure is known as the Demon Blade. With the ability to wield not one but two katana, these can be switched at any time mid-battle to combine their powers to deliver some incredibly powerful attacks.

Sara – Dual Blades

Voiced by Ayana Taketatsu, Sara is known for their ability to unleash powerful attacks and strength through two short dual-wielded blades for the ultimate powerful double attacks!

Taketora – Bow

Voice by Rikiya Koyama, Taketora is the master of the Bow or in Japanese it would be called Yumi where the power of ranged attacks works to your advantage. Seamlessly swap between hand-to-hand combat and using your bow depending on the type of battle you are in!

A New Legend Awaits

I’ll be totally honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first dove into Yasha Legends of the Demon Blade however, I was incredibly excited to try something a little different. While I typically explore a variety of more cosier games, life simulation games and those similar, this certainly was a step outside my comfort zone.

While it’s not unusual for me to play more action adventure based games, this was my first time really playing one with more rougelite mechanics than what I’m used to. Yet, I wasn’t going to let some nerves stop me from what will be an interesting and exciting experience.

Diving into Yasha Legends of the Demon Blade, I was greeted with an opening cut scene. One that helps build the story and the world that you are about to embark into.

For now, my biggest choice was who to play as? Sara, Taketora or Shigure? For my first play through, I decided to go with Shigure. I felt that this would be a nice introduction to the game when it came to learning about combat, techniques and strategies. With that being said, I was now into the game and learning how to move and some basic combat skills.

I did find this somewhat tricky to start with however, after a few attempts, I was finally starting to get the hang of things and the various attack combinations. However, now was the real test. Out into the real world to take on a variety of enemies. Not a battle dummy, the real deal.

Armed with my Katana I was now up against the actual demons of the world. Putting my combat skills to the test. Collect Soul Orbs and choose what you feel is the most appropriate upgrade, collect the drops from fallen enemies and continue on until you reach the end of that run.

Still I found myself wondering about whom the Nine Tailed Fox really was, the mystery surrounding them and just how I was going to restore peace and bring order back to the world. However, for now that will have to wait while I rest up at a local festival where you’ll find a variety of friendly and helpful demons. Here, you’ll also be able to exchange some of the currency you pick up from fallen enemies for useful objects to use in your adventure, as well as crafting recipes to aid you too.

I’ve made good progress into the game so far and while it has taken me multiple attempts at overcoming some parts of the game, I’ve not let that ruin my experience. I’ve looked at it in more of a positive way, one that allows me to continue working upon my combat skills and combinations.

The game is thoroughly enjoyable and so far, I haven’t run into any major issues, other than my controller dying, but that’s not linked to the game at all. Guess I was just having too much fun. The story line that I’m currently playing through with Shigure is interesting, the other characters who I’ve met so far and just the game as a whole so far has been wonderful. I’m curious to see how the story continues to unfold, how I’m going to continue to harness my somewhat okay combat skills at the moment and become a master katana wielder!

Yasha Legends of the Demon Blade is a fun and pleasant experience that will certainly keep players on their toes! With multiple storylines to experience, skills to master and enemies to fight, it is perfect for those familiar with rougelite style games and those who are new to them, just like myself.
