Have you ever wanted a game where you solely focused on taking photographs? One that has camera functions that are realistic? How about a game that allows you to explore various locations from a cross the world at your own pace? Then I have just the game! Let me introduce you to Lushfoil Photography Sim!

What is LushFoil?

Lushfoil Photography Sim from Matt Newell isn’t just a game about photography. It’s a game that brings you true-to life experiences with a realistic in-game camera that allows you to document your exploration through highly detailed landscapes.

Capture shots you can only dream of, and use an array of different camera settings to enhance your photos even more. You can change features such as auto and manual focus, white balance, exposure, contrast, aperture and more. Players can also manipulate various environmental aspects of the game for their photos, including light angles, fog, wind and rain.

Apart from being able to take gorgeous photographs of the stunning surroundings, you’ll notice that each of the different locations featured within the game have been built from the ground up. The purpose of this is to not only showcase each location’s beautiful surroundings, but also so that they are efficiently optimized. Additionally, there are a number of settings that allow players to customize their experience that will allow the game to run on a wide range of computer set-ups and for those running higher end graphics cards.

So why not take a relaxing tour through each of the various locations that Lushfoil Photography Sim has to offer. From Italy, Australia, Japan and more, each and every location offers a brand new and exciting photography experience. Vast landscapes to explore with hidden areas and Easter Eggs and even opportunities to take the perfect photographs from new perspectives.

Discover a World Through the Eyes of a Photographer

Before I get any further into my thoughts on Lushfoil, you do not need to have any prior knowledge of photography in real life. The game guides you through everything you need to know. There is no harm in experimenting with different settings as you make your way through the game to set up and take different shots.

For myself personally, I would say I know the basics of photography but not the full ins and outs of every aspect of photography. However, I’ve always loved capturing moments in a variety of video games over the years. This love of documenting moments within games is one of the many reasons why I was drawn to Lushfoil Photography Sim.

However, as you enter the first location in Lushfoil, you are greeted by a lovely mountainous forest to explore. The freedom to follow the path, stop to take in the surroundings and of course, take the perfect photograph.

There is something about following the path around each location, is that no route is right or wrong. You can run off in one direction and take a handful of photographs before backtracking to a previous location or moving forward to a new area you’ve just discovered. The added addition of being able to fast travel through the locations is a lovely-added bonus, allowing you to freely jump back and forth to different areas as and when needed.

As you explore each of the different locations, you’ll not only discover the gorgeous landscapes and stunning details in each one, but you’ll also discover hidden secrets in each. You’ll also discover ways to take photographs from different perspectives, to offer a different take on taking photographs. This was lots of fun keeping an eye out for as I explored each location. One of the first I discovered was a paddleboard in the second location. This allowed me to go out into the water and take a variety of shots of the immediate area.

Each of the different locations also have some collectibles, unlockable cameras and useful objects, such as a paper aeroplane, that you can collect as you explore the different areas too. There are certainly plenty of hidden secrets throughout the game. Sometimes taking a moment to pause and take in your surroundings will reveal them! They certainly did for me!

The controls for actually taking a photograph are so easy and seamless. There are even small tutorials and helpful guides to teach you more about the different camera features. I found this helpful when I wanted to create a particular kind of photograph using the manual settings rather than just pointing and clicking the camera.

Even after playing for a couple of hours, I could tell that I was starting to get the hang of the various camera controls and was starting to see the difference in my photographs.

Overall Thoughts

While I still have a few more locations to fully unlock, I’ve been having a blast with Lushfoil Photography Sim. This is something that I’ve never been able to experience in a game before. Not only can you go through and take photographs of the scenery as well as taking a relaxing walk through the game accompanied by the chill soundtrack of the game. In a way, I also feel that I’ve learnt a few things relating to how to use a camera in general through experimenting with the different settings.

I didn’t run into any issues during my time with the game. I was also pleasantly surprised with how seamless transitions were between taking photographs and returning to walking in the game were too. The same goes with moving onto the different areas too.

Lushfoil Photography Sim truly is a unique gaming experience. The relaxing, atmospheric approach to exploration through the game that you can follow through at your own pace was nice to experience, especially after a long, busy day at work. It was perfect to unwind with.

I certainly recommend Lushfoil photography Sim if you are looking for a nice relaxing cosy experience in a game, regardless if you know much about photography or not. The exploration alone of each area is just something I didn’t expect to be so outstanding until properly jumping into the game.

Lushfoil Photography Sim launches on 15th April 2025 on PC via Steam & Epic Games, Xbox and, PlayStation 5! Yes, the game is also Steamdeck Verified and you can check out a demo of the game on Steam as well.
