The Book Club: New Additions & Creating A Reading Nook in The Sims 4

This instalment of The Book Club is not only kicking off content for April but also is my one-hundredth post here on Leekscosycorner! It actually feels incredibly surreal to even comprehend that!

However, for today, I wanted to dive into The Sims 4 and create what I would say is my ideal book nook as well as sharing some of the books I’m looking forward to reading from my current to be read pile. I’ve added a few smaller new additions lately, and it just seemed like that perfect time to combine the two.

The Sims 4

Firstly, new additions!

I’ve added several new books into my collection recently. A new addition from a local bookshop and from a recent trip to London. I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to pop into the flagship Waterstones store while I was there, as well as popping into Foyles at Waterloo Station.

Our Infinite Fates

The latest book from Laura Steven is a tale where the two characters have been in love with one another in a thousand lifetimes, however in each and every single one have killed each other. It’s what I would describe as an enemies to lovers story combined with romance and fantasy elements.

What drew my attention to Our Infinite Fates initially was the cover. I spotted it out of the corner of my eye on a promotional table walking through Waterstones. The pink and black cover with just a dash of gold on the cover. After reading more about the story, I felt that this was something I wanted to read, especially since I’ve not read a lot from this genre yet.

Welcome To The Hyunam-Dong Bookshop

The runaway Korean Sensation by Hwang Bo-Reum has been on my list to read for some time, and finally managed to pick up a copy. This was influenced to a degree by booktok as well as general curiosity about the book. The artwork for the standard paperback version is beautiful as well as it being a story about discovering comfort, acceptance and the healing power of books.

Goodnight Tokyo

I spotted this a few months back in my local Waterstones and haven’t stopped thinking about adding it to my collection since. The book, by Atsuhiro Yoshida, takes places during the quieter moments at night in Tokyo, Japan. A story that follows Matsui, a taxi driver, between the late night hours of 1am and 4:30am. The mysterious, intimate and loneliness mixed with surrealism. A shorter book than the previous two I’ve mentioned, but one that will be an interesting read.

Now with that being said, I did add a couple of books to my digital collection, being Spark of the Everflame by Penn Cole and The Rainfall Market by You Yeong-Gwang. Both of these will be ones I’ll likely read at work to pass time on the way there and back and while on break, at least that is the current plan.

As well as adding some new books to my collection, I couldn’t help but play around and build a little reading nook in The Sims 4 recently.

Building A Reading Nook in The Sims 4

I didn’t go into The Sims 4 with any kind of expectation as to what I wanted to build. It was more a case of laying a foundation and seeing what happens. Initially, I planned to restrict myself to solely The Sims 4 Base Game and a pack or two but changed my mind and allowed myself to use any packs within the game.

To kick things off I thought, let’s have a look at the Book Nook Kit, that’s the perfect Kit to use for this mini build. Slowly placing various objects from this Kit as well as the Cozy Gamer Kit, my little reading nook began to come together and I had a finished product.

The Sims 4 Book Nook

I didn’t want to make anything too fancy, just something that would reflect the things that I like and somewhere that would be a cosy places to settle down and read. The addition of The Sims framed poster and the games’ controller added a nice geeky side to the room, while adding in a couple of plants, a comfy sofa with the added blanket, and just a few bits that make it what I’d one day would love to have in real life.

As for colours, green and pink are colours that I love in general, so the colour pallet for the room was the easiest part. Even though I only made this as a singular room, I’m very tempted to expand on it and make it into a full house the next time I jump into the game.
