Urban Jungle Review: A Cosy Retreat for Gamers

Author’s Note: A Game Key for Urban Jungle was kindly provided by PR Hound

A little over a year ago, I stumbled across the very first demo released for Urban Jungle. It was honestly by chance that I saw it on social media. Instantly it grabbed my attention and I jumped into the demo. I happened to be part of some of the first people to both play the demo and share their thoughts on the original demo for Urban Jungle.

Now, fast-forward thirteen months, and the full game has launched across the globe! The game, since it’s reveal, has been highly anticipated. For not only it’s cosy and relaxing vibes, but for being full of plant goodness!

Urban Jungle is the ultimate cosy game for plant lovers and decorators! The game is charming and relaxing and wants you to welcome you in to take the average apartment and turn it into a plant haven! All you need to do is find the perfect spot for each plant, with not a single worry about needing to water the plants or deal with pests.

Yes, you can also pet the cat!

Grab a Cup of Tea & Relax!

I’ve been looking forward to Urban Jungle’s full release since the first demo, and I was excited to dive into the game recently. So, I grabbed a cup of tea and jumped in.

Having wanting to kick the week off with a cosy and wholesome game was the plan and what better way than with Urban Jungle. The game begins with a cut scene which gives you an idea of what the present day story was for our protagonist. While it wasn’t what she had in mind, she certainly had dreams. Colourful, floral and full of lush plants!

Within moments, we were taken back in time to the protagonist’s childhood, a conversation with her Grandma about gardening and flowers as well as celebrating a local holiday. From here, you start to meet some of the different characters that are a part of the carefully woven in story of Urban Jungle. Familiar names and faces that you’ll see as you continue through the game.

However, without spoiling such a heartwarming story, let’s take an even closer look at Urban Jungle.

Placing plants in Urban Jungle is easy. You are given a choice of two free options and two paid options. The paid options coming from the coins you earn from completing various tasks in each level. Each plant has a different rating as well as things it loves, hates and needs. You can easily tell what these needs are through various overlays on the screen. It does take some trial and error to match plants up in the best places as well as satisfying all of their needs, but you soon pick up which plants like each other, which hate each other and what kind of areas they like to be in.

As you place down more plants, you’ll start to get used to what plants like what to help fulfil their needs and to help increase your score to progress to the next chapter. You can easily keep track of how far off you are from unlocking the next chapter by hovering over the arrow on the bottom right of the user interface.

I won’t lie, there have been times when I’ve just had fun in filling up areas in each chapter with plants, more so to create a little bit of plant chaos. This is also where it became slight more chaotic in the game’s creative mode. To unlock creative mode, simply complete each chapter of the game one by one.

I mentioned a little bit about unlocking more plants as you play. While you naturally discover more plants, you can keep track of them and the variations you’ve unlocked, finer details about each plant in your handy notebook. A true treasure trove for any budding plant lover!

Urban Jungle: Plant Notebook

Urban Jungle has been a wonderful experience and a big cosy hug that I’ve been looking for in a game lately. While the game didn’t take me too long to complete, it had me wanting to jump back in and carry on playing. Be it through the main game or in creative mode.

The storyline within Urban Jungle is heartwarming and one that I feel many players will be able to relate to in some way shape or form. It is subtly intertwined into the game itself, but also doesn’t overshadow the core focus of the game.

Having a mixture of puzzle like elements and also decorating/unpacking in the game gave another level of chilled and cosy gaming to the mix. Add in the calming soundtrack and everything else Urban Jungle has to offer, and you have the perfect cosy combination.

This is certainly a game I recommend having a look at on Steam, you can also check out the Urban Jungle demo too!
