Refreshing the Genre: Anticipated Life Simulation Games Ready to Impress

The Sims has been the main game many of us would go to when we think of life simulation games. However, many up-and-coming games could topple The Sims from their long reign.

Over the years, we’ve seen many games both real and fake (despite looking rather convincing) attempt to break through onto the market. With many starting to approach their current launch timescales, one that noticeably tried to launch and subsequently delayed several times until finally cancelled was Life By You. However, there are still several that stand out, ready to make their names known in the future.

Life By You

Let’s kick off with Life By You.

This was the upcoming life simulation game from Paradox Tectonic. Initially, the game had a release date, for early access, back in 2023. However, it was delayed several times until the game and studio were shut down for good in June 2024.

While the game had a lot of promise and, good-looking features, there were some community concerns. While the team did act on this feedback and regularly updated the community on progress, it appears that Life By You just wasn’t meant to happen.

inZOI

By far, the most anticipated life simulation game at the moment is inZOI! From a game that quietly sneaked into the line-up and started making its name known earlier this year, it has caused quite a commotion. However, while it’s not primarily in a negative way, from what I have seen online, many people are excited due to its level of detail, the features and how realistic it looks. I won’t lie, it does look pretty good, and I’m excited to find out more about the game!

Paralives

Up next is Paralives.

Now, the game has been in development for a few years and currently has a planned early access launch in 2025. The game itself has been taking shape nicely over the years, and the community regularly receives updates on the progress of the game. It definitely looks like it’s taking shape nicely and has a lot of potential as it heads towards its early access stage!

Vivaland

Last but not least is Vivaland. This is another life simulation game that has been on the radar for some time. It’s taking shape and making good progress, and just like Paralives, is aiming for a 2025 release! There is currently a free demo on Steam where players can a taste of the game’s features in the build mode. You can let your creativity run wild and experiment with different styles while you design your dream home!

Project Rene

While not a competitor for The Sims as such, but more the next installation into the franchise. Project Rene is on the radar and while information about the game is sparse at the moment, the The Sims community are certainly eager to find out more. We know development is well underway, and hopefully we’ll see an update in the near future as to how this could fit into the current line of upcoming life simulation games.

At first glance, you might be thinking, do we need a new The Sims style game. The answer to that really depends. However, what each of these games offers is a fresh approach to the genre. With many showcasing options to play with others, access features on the go and take creativity and design to the next level, there’s certainly a lot on offer.

While on the surface, these games might look similar, upon a closer look, there is so much that sets each one apart from one another.

Of course, there are so many upcoming games that a solely just life simulations, but also many more that offer an aspect of the genre. The question is, which one stands out to you, or which are you interested in discovering more about? Additionally, how do you feel about the use of AI tools/features being included in life simulation games?
