Get Ready to Run Your Own Tavern – Tavern Keeper | Demo Review

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to run your own tavern?

Now you can with Greenheart Games’ upcoming game, Tavern Keeper! You may be thinking, Greenheart Games, that name sounds familiar? Well, they are the masterminds behind the highly popular game, Game Dev Tycoon!

In Tavern Keeper, players can build and decorate taverns, hire trusty staff, keep on top of stock, and get to know the locals. At the end of the day, you are the boss and call the shots!

The game allows you to manage every single aspect of owning a Tavern. From the day-to-day running to decorating. So, if you like a mixture of sandbox building, simulation features and business management then this may be just up your street!

Demo Tutorial

Upon jumping into Tavern Keeper, you’ll jump into a cut scene that gives you an idea as to what kind of chaos is about to happen. Sorry, I mean the kind of possible experiences you could run into as an owner of a Tavern.

Fast-forward to the tutorial itself, and it’s incredibly easy to get started, follow and pick up the controls and mechanisms of the game. While you’re guided through the varying aspects of the tutorial, the narrator keeps you going with their unique humour that all links back to the game’s theme and the fantasy world!

Running the Tavern on Your Own

Once you’ve explored the various basics of the game, the game will hand the tavern over to you. Your task now is to try and get your first Tavern Star. Sounds easy right? There’s only one way to find out.

You can follow the checklist in-game to keep you on track, as well as find handy tips and tricks if you get stuck!

Overall Demo Thoughts

I can honestly say, I had so much fun exploring the Tavern Keeper demo!

The way the game guides you through the basics of the game and how to get your tavern up and running for the first time is perfect! The controls are straightforward and if you’ve played any of The Sims games past or present, it will feel like second nature when it comes to building.

The added humour from the narrator who guides you through the demo had me laughing away at various times with some of their lines.

While the demo is short, it is certainly enough to showcase Tavern Keeper! There’s so much included, but at no point is it overwhelming. You get hands-on with building and designing aspects of your first Tavern. Get to know the clientele via their own unique stories, as well as help guide them with your answers. Learn how to manage your basic stock, hire your staff and start your journey to becoming the ultimate Tavern Keeper!

This is definitely a game that’s on my radar for when it releases in full, and there’s still plenty to discover in Tavern Keeper when the game launches later this year!

I’m excited to see what kind of Taverns I’ll be able to create and explore. What kind of characters you’ll be able to meet, and just how far you can push the limits of creating the ultimate Tavern experience!

To find out more about Tavern Keeper, you can head over to the official Tavern Keeper website and follow/wish list the game on Steam!

  1. I enjoyed the demo as well! Looking forward to the release. I can’t get enough of the writing, its exactly my kind of humor.

It seems like there’s a little more to the game than the demo shows. I noticed some menus are still boarded up by the time you’re done. I’m interested to see what those are!
