Into The Emberlands: Are You Ready to be the Light-Bearer? | Review – Gifted

Author’s Note: A Game Key for Into the Emberlands was kindly provided by Daedalic Entertainment

Into the Emberlands recently launched into Early Access on Steam, and now it is time to jump in and look at another exciting-looking game!

If you haven’t heard about Into the Emberlands before, let me introduce you to the game before I go any further. This cosy, cute and wholesome game with a roguelike twist will have you wanting to return again and again to keep exploring the Emberlands.

Your mission as a chosen Light-bearer is to help rebuild the homes of the Knacks. Currently, their world is under threat by the mysterious, glooming Miasma. You’ll also be venturing out around the world armed with your lantern to bring any Knacks or resources you find along the way, which will help you expand your village.

Be careful not to let your lantern fade, otherwise, you’ll have to wait for the next light-bearer to come and find you.

What Else Can You Expect in Into the Emberlands?

  • Curious mystical creatures
  • A world full of adventures and surprises
  • Procedurally generated worlds spanning various biomes
  • Support the inhabitants within the Emberlands
  • Help guide the lost Knacks back home
  • Gather resources to help restore and expand your village
  • and much, much more!

Why not have a look at the trailer below to discover what lies ahead in the Emberlands!

A Journey Into the Emberlands

Upon launching Into the Emberlands, I had a quick look at the various menus to see what each was about. Fairly self-explanatory with a few options in the settings menu, players can tailor their Sound and Graphics settings as well as being able to change the game’s language and a credits section.

Jumping into the game for the first time, you are greeted with a quick character selection screen. There are limited choices when starting the game for the first time, however, there appear to be some more options that you can unlock along your journey.

The first level for Into the Emberlands serves as a tutorial as such. Teaching you the basics of traversing the world, the different mechanics and things to watch out for.

When exploring the world, you only have a set number of moves within your Ember Lantern. You can refill your Ember Lantern by returning to either a village or a windmill. However, if you run out of moves, your run is sadly over. It will show you on screen how much ember each move will take, so it’s important to ensure that you think first before you move.

After completing the initial level, you are on your way to completing various quests to level up your village. These range from various tasks such as retrieving lost Lightbearers to collecting particular amounts of resources. Returning to your village allows you to turn in any quests you have fulfilled, reunite lost Lightbearers back to the town, and continue to progress through the game.

The quests are fun and easy to follow, and there is definitely an element of challenge to them the further you progress into the game. You’ll also meet some friendly faces and some foes along the way in the game. However, as Lightbearer, you can easily take that all in your stride. Just make sure you pick up the Ember orbs as you explore to ensure you can still travel back to the village safely.

My Experience with Into the Emberlands So Far

The time that I’ve spent with Into the Emberlands so far has been amazing. Although this is a game that is in Early Access, it has plenty to offer already. I can’t wait to see what else the team has planned going forward.

I can’t say I’ve experienced any issues with the game at all, everything has been smooth sailing for me throughout my game time.

As a whole, I can honestly say, I love everything about Into The Emberlands. The art style and colours, the story and the mechanics. The soundtrack in the game is beautiful and really at the same time feels super relaxing.

This is one game that not only has me wanting to play more and more, but also has nothing that I can fault. For a game that is a combination of cosy vibes, and survival factors and has a dash of roguelike features too, each and every aspect of Into the Emberlands compliments each other perfectly.

If you are looking for a new game to pick up and want something you can jump into and pick up easily, I highly recommend Into the Emberlands. Better still, the game is only $6.59 (USD) or £5.49 (GBP) with additional versions of this early access game available too!

For now, you’ll find me continuing to explore the Emberlands, levelling up my village and unlocking even more cool features! I’m looking forward to what lies ahead, both in my save and for Into the Emberlands in the future!
