The Sims & Me

I’ll be honest, I’ve been on the fence about writing this post for a little while. Not because I’m scared to do so, but hopefully if I explain, you’ll understand why.

The Sims franchise as a whole has been one that’s played a huge part in my life. Growing up playing The Sims from the start and watching it evolve and become what it is today. It has been a real rollercoaster ride for more reasons than one. It’s ups and downs. Twists and turns, and I’ve seen the game and community go through so many different highs and lows in general. I’ve been grateful to have had the opportunity to even share a wide range of content with the wider community online for several years, too.

However now, I’m rediscovering the franchise for myself, and how to have fun with it again for the first time in a long time.

I don’t think I ever felt completely out of the loop with the franchise, but there have been moments where I’ve felt lost in such a large community and distanced myself from pretty much everything associated with it for a while. Essentially, a break but each time, never really was able to get to the place I wanted to be when I returned.

So, starting today, I’m going on a journey to reignite that spark I had for The Sims franchise. Taking it all back to basics as if I’m picking up the game and franchise for the very first time.

Get to Updating

To begin with, I had the task of updating my game and the small handful of mods I have in my game. I’m slightly behind with this, which is unlike me and that’s okay.

As expected, the EA App gave me a few challenges like normal, but eventually, I got The Sims 4 updated. I also remembered that there were two recently released Kits that I wanted to check out. In true Simmer style, I added them to my game.

As for updating any mods, this was quick and easy compared to normal. I only have about five, I need to manually return to the creator’s own websites to grab the latest version. Normally I end up going down a rabbit hole and end up adding even more mods to my game than what I need.

Time for a Story Quiz

Loading The Sims 4 up for the first time in a while, I knew it would be best to jump into a brand new save. The stories and memories from my previous save files were now sealed away, and I might revisit them one day. From now on, it’s all about starting over and re-experiencing the game in a way I haven’t done so for a long time.

As for my Sim, I decided to use the Story Quiz to create my Sim to add a unique spin to my Sim. Previously, I would just go for the same Traits and Aspirations, which never really gave me much variety.

Let’s take a look at how my Story Quiz is going to shape my new Sim!

So, not the combination I was expecting, however, one that I’m intrigued to see how it plays out. My Sim was also given the Musical Genius Aspiration that comes with the bonus trait of Muser. As for the traits themself, the Story Quiz granted my new Sim the Music Lover, Genius and Kleptomaniac traits. A very interesting combination given the chosen career and pre-determined skills/aspirations.

I’m not too disappointed about this actually, and while I’m intrigued as previously mentioned, the career is one I’ve not explored for a very long time and the same with the Vampire Lore Skill.

Walk, Walk, Fashion Baby

As for my Sim, I essentially created myself but named her Skye instead. I came to the name via the randomizer and told myself, that whichever name it landed on after five clicks, is the name I will have. As for her style, I’ve tried to replicate my own look as best as I can within the game. I’ve only tailored my own everyday style so far and have used the pre-styled looks for my other outfit choices for the time being.

Location, Location, Location

Another big choice I needed to make was which world do I want to reside in? Do I want to live in an apartment building in San Myshuno or Tomarang? Maybe countryside vibes in Henford-on-Bagley or the university world of Britechester? I could take it back to basics and live in a Base Game world of Willow Creek or Oasis Springs.

Eventually, I settled on residing in Tomarang from The Sims 4 For Rent expansion pack. This is mainly because despite owning the expansion since its launch at the end of 2023, I’ve not actually played with it.

I opted for a rental unit in the Morensong Neighbourhood, specifically the Taka Soi 15 lot. This is a lot with two separate rental lots and my Sim has taken the ground-floor apartment.

My next mission is to furnish the apartment. Although it comes with the basics, I want to work my magic and create a space that reflects my own taste and style.

Dream Home Decorator

Before I get started in renovating, here’s a quick look at what the apartment looked like before I decided to live my interior designer dreams!

Nothing overly fancy but it was a good starting point for my Sim. After deleting the entirety of the living room, bedroom and kitchen, I started over. I was okay with leaving the bathroom as it was for now and would tackle that later.

After some trial and error and trying to not spend all of my Sims’ money, I was done and now had a cute and cosy apartment space. For now, it will do, but I’ll probably end up changing it up again in the future.

What Would the Future Cube Say?

Well, what would it say for your Sim to do next now they are all moved in and settling down?

Firstly, I’ve got a criminal career to become a mastermind in. There is also all the learning about the vampire lore of a place called Forgotten Hollow. Maybe I’ll have my Sim explore her new neighbourhood in Tomarang and get to know the people and the culture before anything else.

There’s plenty to re-explore. The story is mine, and I’m excited to see where it leads my Sim!
