Urban Jungle Demo | Review

Stumbling through my timeline this afternoon, I came across an adorable-looking game shared by the Wholesome Games X account. At first glance, it was cute, colourful and full of plants. Needless to say, I had to investigate more.

To my surprise, there was a demo available to play straight away on Steam, so you know I had to check it out.

The game I’m talking about today is none other than Urban Jungle!

What is Urban Jungle?

Urban Jungle is the upcoming cosy chill vibes game where your task is to find the best home for your plants within your small apartment.

The game is planned to be released this year, in 2024 and will be available on Steam.

You can both wishlist Urban Jungle and play the short demo that was released today!

The game that is being developed and published by Kylyk Games describes itself as the following:

In Urban Jungle, you decorate a small apartment with plants and transform it from a concrete box into a green haven. Don’t worry about watering or dealing with pests – the plants just need a good spot, and that’s enough to have even more plants at your disposal. And we also have a cat that you can pet!

Our team consists of two people, so we’ll make a small game, but you’ll be able to follow the life story of a heroine who wholeheartedly loves nature.

What will be in the game

  • An intuitively understandable and pleasant process of arranging flowers.
  • A few puzzle elements (after all, apartments are tiny).
  • A relaxing atmosphere.
  • A simple story told through the environment

The Demo Review

The Urban Jungle demo was easy to get started with. The controls and aim of the game are simple and easy to understand from the get-go.

Your mission is to essentially place various plants within areas of your apartment. However, placement is key when selecting where each plant should go. Multiple zones will allow you the option to choose the plant’s optimal placement. Depending on which zone you place the plant in will determine how many points you will obtain for that plant.

There are several different plants that you unlock along the way ranging from succulents, snake plants, bamboo, cactuses and more! You can also keep track of the plants you unlock in your journal!

What I enjoyed most about the demo was just how relaxing and cosy it felt. There’s no pressure to place plants in a time frame, you just go at your own pace. Put a plant in the wrong place or just want to move it? Pick it up and place it again.

The room designs were also incredibly relatable for the two that were available in the demo, although a lot more cluttered and chaotic once the plants had been placed. I love the art style, the small animations within the rooms and the colours.

Urban Jungle will definitely be a game on my radar, and I’m excited to see more from the game and of course, play it once it is fully released!
